Woodkirk Wolves 3 - 2 Leeds City FC
Woodkirk Wolves 3-2 Leeds City
A day when we ended up with probably our 10th choice keeper in goal for the second half.
Onto the game itself, we started pretty well and were the better side for most of the half. Unfortunately for us, a ricochet in one of the few attacks from the away side ended up in the back of the net.
We changed the formation with 10 to go in the first half to give Christy more support. It paid instant dividends with us camped inside their third, unfortunately the ball wouldn't go in.
A simple message at half time, up the intensity and better decision making in final third.
A great response in the first 5 with Whelan being fouled in the box. He stepped up and finished with aplomb.
That's when the drama started, our keeper got injured, which meant the gaffer had to don the gloves and make his debut for the season.
Once we restarted, Christy got a goal his second half performance deserved. Whelan then extended our lead with a quiet brilliant free kick from 30 yards out. We created more and missed even more with every one getting in on the act. With a few minutes to go Leeds City scored a consolation goal which gave the scoreline a much closer look.
That's six out of six from us and finally this young side is showing the consistency we've asked for.
MOM - Ty Akram, he put on a goalkeeping clinic in the second half. Punching and catching with real authority and starting many an attack. Some called it a Gigi Buffon - esque performance but he's too modest to even have his name mentioned in the same breath as the Italian legend.
MOM is tongue in cheek 😂. It was Tom Whelan.
